Smith & Nephew Foundation - Doctoral Nursing Research Studentships Awarded

The Smith and Nephew Foundation Doctoral Nursing Research Scholarship is designed to support outstanding career nurse researchers in their doctoral research. Three Doctoral Nursing Research Scholarships have been awarded this year.

Annie Law, a nurse working for Leicester Royal Infirmary, has been awarded £85,500 to research and identify factors that contribute to the occurrence of palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia (PPE) caused by cytotoxic chemotherapy in patients with cancer and validate a risk assessment tool.

Lynn Dudley, a midwife working for the University Hospital of North Staffordshire Maternity Unit has won £90,000 to research postnatal management of perineal wounds.

The third Doctoral Nursing Research Scholarship awarded this year is the first award collaboration between the Foundation and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. This year's winner is Elizabeth McGinnis, a nurse working for Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust, who has won £85,000 to study how wounds heal specifically in patients who have developed heel pressure ulcers.
